When spending money on treatments for skin concerns, there is always the question, “Does it actually work?”
During and after pregnancy, you may have found yourself spending a fortune on creams and oils that claim to treat stretch marks. The best time to treat your marks is when they are still new, however with the right treatment, both old and new marks can be improved.
In this article, we explain why creams and oils have a band-aid effect on the marks caused by skin over-stretching and discuss Sublative™ treatment with before and after pictures to show the clinically proven results.
Treatment Options
Creams, Lotions and Oils
Topical treatments have a band-aid effect in that they will only moisturise your skin so it appears healthy.
Surgery
Some people will consider surgery or subcision to remove their stretch marks, usually in conjunction with a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Due to the invasive nature, this option will likely lead to further scarring.
Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion
These techniques effectively ‘sand away’ the top of the epidermis and not the dermis which is where the marks form.
IPL and Laser Treatment
IPL has the same issue as dermabrasion / microdermabrasion in that it only heats the epidermis and the top of the dermis – it cannot penetrate deep enough into the dermis.
Laser is known to be an effective treatment option, however hyperpigmentation is a risk.
Sublative™ Treatment
Sublative™ treatment for stretch marks is different in that it uses radio frequency energy. It penetrates deep into the dermis where it is needed to alter the scar tissue, without damaging the epidermis. New collagen and elastin are produced to support the process of repairing tissue. Sublative™ treatment has been proven in numerous clinical studies. There is no risk of hyperpigmentation with Sublative™
There is no downtime with Sublative™ treatment – you can go straight back to your normal routine. Your skin will be slightly red and will have tiny pinhole marks from the treatment. The redness resolves within 24 hours and the marks fade over 2-4 weeks.
