Undergoing a cosmetic procedure is a big decision which requires a lot of comparative research. When it comes to fat reduction there are two key options – surgical and non-surgical – that both have their pros and cons.
We discuss the surgical option of liposuction versus UltraShape non-surgical liposuction.
Liposuction Quick Facts
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is an invasive treatment that removes excess fat deposits that will not shift from the body with diet and exercise. Liposuction is usually performed under general anaesthesia, and as with any invasive surgery, comes with some potential risks. However, as liposuction is a more aggressive treatment, it can remove a substantial amount of fat from a range of areas including the abdomen, buttocks, hips, back, arms and neck. The costs associated with this procedure vary from patient to patient, depending on type of liposuction, amount needed and areas on the body. This procedure is very effective in removing fat cells however, a healthy lifestyle must be maintained following the procedure to avoid future weight gain.
Liposuction Procedure and Downtime
Liposuction is an invasive treatment, this means preparation and recovery time is longer than a non-invasive treatment. Before your surgery you will be advised to fast for approximately 6 hours. The day of the procedure you will spend some time in surgery and then in outpatient recovery until you are able to go home to continue recovery. For the most part, the amount of time spent in hospital is only for the day of treatment, but in some cases, you may be required to stay longer. Most patients return to work a week after surgery and avoid strenuous activity for 2-3 weeks following. Recovery time is approximately 2-3 weeks depending on the patient. Following the procedure, you will be required to wear a pressure garment for up to 6 weeks, which promotes skin shrinkage while also minimising swelling and bruising.
UltraShape Power Quick Facts
UltraShape on the other hand is a comfortable and non-invasive treatment. UltraShape is a walk-in walk-out treatment and often is completed during lunch breaks. UltraShape focuses pulsed ultrasound technology at fat deposits in those hard to shift places by destroying fat cells. This leaves fat cells to be broken down and processed through the body. Treatment is administered in 3 sessions and while the results are not as dramatic as an invasive treatment, the costs and downtime are significantly reduced.
UltraShape Procedure and Downtime
UltraShape is a non-surgical treatment, therefore, there is no recovery time. The treatment is completed so quickly and painlessly you can do it on your lunch break and head back to work afterwards while your body is working to remove the fat cells. There is no pre-surgery fasting, preparation, post-surgery healing or pressure bandages. Treatment can be done on most areas of the body and the session itself runs for approximately an hour.
VelaShape
The VelaShape is another non-invasive body contouring treatment. While this device is not considered a weight loss treatment, it targets cellulite and loose skin, giving the body a toned and contoured look. It perfectly compliments the UltraShape treatment by tightening and smoothing skin after fat cell destruction. Typically, the treatment spans over 3 sessions, and like UltraShape, is painless and has no downtime. The VelaShape can be used on the neck, arms, thighs, buttocks, flanks and abdomen on patients that are of a BMI less than 30 and fall under the Nurnberger-Muller Cellulite Classification Stage 1 and 2.
