Shaving or waxing can be time consuming and such a hassle sometimes. Do you find yourself saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow” and before you know it, your “fur” is looking almost as good as your pets? If you’re ready to say goodbye to razors and wax, and say hello to an easier, long term solution to smooth hair-free skin, then the hair removal experts at Feel Good Laser & Skin Clinic in Richmond can help.
Perhaps you’ve tried IPL hair removal before, but you weren’t happy with the result, or you’ve been told that your skin tone or hair colour isn’t suitable for IPL. In this article we look at the differences between IPL and the new Gentle laser hair removal technology from Syneron-Candela that is changing the hair removal market.
What’s The Difference?
There are three key differences between our Gentle laser hair removal and IPL hair removal:
- The number of treatments you will need
- The level of discomfort
- We can treat most skin tones and hair types, however IPL is only recommended for dark hair on lighter skin tones
Common issues experienced with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) can be that the hair grows back too quickly, you need around ten (or more) treatment sessions, the treatment is too painful or your skin or hair colour isn’t recommended for IPL. Although marketed as a laser, IPL is not actually a laser. IPL uses multiple wavelengths to damage the hair follicle and slow down growth. The energy can scatter during treatment, which leads to increased pain and less effective treatment.
On the other hand, hair removal using the Gentle technology has been proven safe and effective in clinical studies. The laser pulses destroy the hair follicles at the root in the anagen phase, when the hair is in growth, at its strongest. Research shows that patients report up to 80% hair reduction in 3 treatment sessions. With the patented Dynamic Cooling DeviceTM, which rapidly cools the skin, it offers comfortable, fast treatments for most skin types.

What To Expect Before and After Treatment
Before your treatment, avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks. Do not bleach, pluck or wax 4 to 6 weeks before and discontinue any hair removal methods apart from shaving throughout your treatments. You should shave the area to be treated 1 day before treatment.
Following treatment, your skin may be slightly red but this typically subsides within a few minutes to several hours after the procedure. We will be able to provide further information to you during your complimentary consultation with us.
